Rigid contact lenses may take a little longer to get used to than soft ones, but they hardly fatigue your eyes and you can wear them all day without any problems. Rigid contact lenses are available in many varieties, so there's a suitable rigid lens for everyone.
Â
Benefits of hard contact lenses
- The sharpest vision:Â With a hard lens, you see more clearly. These are custom-made for your eyes, while soft lenses often have a standard shape.
- Also for difficult corrections:Â If you have a simple plus or minus deviation, there are plenty of soft lenses that can correct it. With a more complex correction, this is often not the case, and you'll be a candidate for rigid lenses.
- Hygienic:Â Soft lenses are porous and absorb moisture, while hard lenses do not. For example, it's easier to clean a flat piece of plastic than a sponge. This makes hard lenses slightly more hygienic than soft lenses that you wear frequently (so not daily disposables).
- More affordable:Â Hard contact lenses last much longer, making them more cost-effective. They are also much less susceptible to damage.
- Healthier:Â Hard lenses are slightly better for your eyes than soft ones. They float on your tear fluid, preventing direct contact with your eyes.
