A toric lens is a special contact lens you wear if you have astigmatism. This is a condition in which your cornea or lens isn't perfectly round, but rather oval. As a result, light doesn't refract evenly, and you often see things blurry or distorted, both up close and far away.
A standard (spherical) contact lens only corrects nearsightedness or farsightedness, but not the uneven curvature. A toric lens does. It has different strengths in different directions, so light focuses evenly on your retina.
Because the lens needs to stay in exactly the right place, toric lenses have a clever design that makes them less likely to rotate in your eye. You might sometimes feel a slight difference in their fit compared to regular lenses, but after a short adjustment period, you'll barely notice it.
You can choose from daily lenses, monthly lenses, or even soft and hard lenses. The best fit for you depends on your eyes, your lifestyle, and, of course, the advice of your Oogwereld optician.
In short: with toric lenses you can see clearly and comfortably despite astigmatism.
