About 10 years ago, I noticed I was having increasing difficulty keeping my eyes open. It felt like I was constantly squinting at the sun. Because it was getting worse, I decided to see a doctor. His initial diagnosis was spot on: I had blepharospasm.
Blepharospasm (or ptosis) is a lowering of the upper eyelid due to high muscle tension (a spasm of the muscles around the eye) and is incurable. It can arise from various causes, such as thyroid problems, excessive fatigue, or a traumatic event.
I couldn't accept the news that I'd just have to live with it, so I visited numerous doctors and hospitals looking for a solution. Unfortunately, there wasn't one for me. I did receive Botox treatments every three months, but that only helped for a short time. Soon after the treatment, my eyelids started to droop again, and I had to go without driving, reading, watching TV, or cycling.
At some point, I heard about ptosis glasses through the grapevine. Searching online, I found Oogwereld Oosterhof in Eindhoven. I immediately made an appointment, and after consultation and advice, we ordered ptosis glasses. My expectations were high, and the day I picked up my glasses was very exciting...
Then a whole new world opened up for me, both literally and figuratively! I could walk with both hands free again, drive a car, read, and properly manage my housework. I can also travel frequently again, which is my favorite hobby. Most people close to me know about it, but you hardly see it.
It's been quite a few years now, and I've worn out a few pairs of glasses, or I simply want new frames. My optician is very helpful, and they do everything they can to make the glasses as comfortable as possible. I recently got a new pair of "THEO" glasses, and I'm extremely happy with them.
