When should my child see the orthoptist?
Often, the child health clinic or a doctor determines that a child's vision is not optimal, and the child is referred to an orthoptist. An orthoptist specializes in diagnosing conditions and abnormalities of children's eyes. Depending on the condition or abnormality, a visual solution for the child is determined. This may include patching the eye, eye drops, glasses, or sometimes surgery.
Orthoptics for children
If there's something wrong with your eye position or eye coordination, an orthoptist can help. These abnormalities can often be corrected with exercises, glasses, or surgery.
The orthoptist examines and treats complaints or problems related to strabismus, lazy eyes, double vision, farsightedness and nearsightedness in children, cylindrical refractive errors in children, and specific headache and reading complaints. For this, the orthoptist uses targeted methods that allow for rapid identification of the deviation.
